The Australian Cork Company (ACC) has its
head office and cork business in Sydney. The parent company is Colombin GM &
Figlio Spa (C&F)
located in Trieste, Italy. For raw material C&F utilizes their extensive cork manufacturing facilities situated in
southern Spain. Quality control has the highest priority and Colombin are
fastidious about cleanliness of their facilities and products. Every possible
source of contamination at all stages of processing has been identified and the
production management is such that the quality of the cork products are not
compromised.
The Colombin facility in Trieste is where
all of the cork products are subjected to the patented 'ST' ('pre-sterile')
treatment and extra volatile extraction process. It is this unique process that
ensures harmful volatiles and impurities absorbed in the cork-cells and cork
structure are extracted thus greatly reducing the potential of 'cork taint'. The
facility also produces the 'technical' stoppers using another unique and
patented process that includes centrifugal molding which ensures the complete
homogeneous distribution of cork granules. One excellent attribute of this
process is that the cork does not elongate at insertion maximizing the
elasticity along its diameter rather than its height.
The products are exported throughout the
world and great care is taken to ensure they reach their destination reliably.
The containers are sealed with great care and are stowed below deck during
shipping. In Australia the corks are stored in a thoroughly clean environment.
Here the corks are checked to stringent QA procedures and graded where
applicable. After printing, lubricating treatment, moisture adjustment and
sterilizing the stoppers are packed in HD plastic bags and durable cartons for
delivery throughout Australia.
Clayfield Wines have used ACC corks
exclusively since 1999 and consider them the cleanest cork available.
